You play poker on a plane by connecting phones directly to each other over a local link instead of the internet, so it works with airplane mode on and no signal. Turn WiFi back on (or use a personal hotspot), have one person host and the rest scan the QR code to join, and you can deal from your seats with no chips, no cards, and no in-flight WiFi purchase.
Yes, it works in airplane mode
Poker Offline connects phones directly to each other over a local link, not the internet — so it keeps working with no signal. The one thing to know: on most phones you can leave Airplane Mode on but switch WiFi back on, which is allowed on the vast majority of flights and lets the phones see each other. No in-flight WiFi purchase required.
Before you board (do this once)
Open Poker Offline on each phone while you still have signal — even just once — so it caches for offline use. Better still, tap "Add to Home Screen" to install it as an app. After that it launches with zero connection.
At your seats
- Turn WiFi on (Airplane Mode can stay on). If there's no shared network, one person turns on a personal hotspot and the others join it.
- One player taps Host and sets the buy-in and blinds.
- Everyone else taps Join and scans the host's QR code — easy across a row or aisle.
- Deal, and play until you land.
